The Porsche Cayman GT4 has been one among the best performance sports cars in recent times, for it comes equipped with 911 GT3 tech and ability and is powered by a fantastic 4.0-litre flat-six engine. And when it comes to being behind the wheel, it is, by far, the closest you can get to a driver’s car. In Porsche speak, the Cayman GT4 is a brutal driving machine with razor sharp responses, made for customers who love having fun on a track or on their favourite back road.
Hey good lookin’
The Cayman GT4 and 718 Spyder look similar from the front and the sides. It gets a huge diffuser with large air ducts at the front, triangular headlights and a flowing bonnet. On the rear fenders, you will notice air inlets that channel air into the engine. Since this one is a coupe, it boasts of a sloping roof and large rear wing. Like the 718 Spyder, the Cayman GT4 too gets smoked out tail lamps with a gloss black accent running through the middle.
Racer’s cockpit
The cabin of the Cayman GT4 has been designed around the driver with all the controls within reach. Buttons for the stability control, suspension, auto blip and exhaust and all located on the center console. Navigating through display screens is a simple task, thanks to the buttons, and the climate control settings are separate. The steering is wrapped in Alcantara and the steering is free of clutter, and another motorsport-inspired detail is the loop straps used in place of door handles. The GT4 also comes with optional bucket seats with the base made of carbon-fiber, covered in Alcantara and leather. The seats, though a bit firm, are supportive and fit snugly. The seats can be raised or lowered electrically, and can be adjusted forward and backward, manually. There is storage space in the front trunk and under the rear glass hatch.
Power ranger
The Cayman GT4 is powered by a 4.0-litre, naturally-aspirated flat-six engine that produces 414bhp and 420Nm of torque, nestled beautifully behind the cockpit. The car comes paired only to a 6-speed manual transmission. The gearshift lever is stubby, making it easy to quick-shift and also making the driving position more comfortable. The GT4 manages a top speed of 303kph and can sprint from 0-100kph in 4.4 seconds. The engine is smooth and the linear response from the motor is great. The chassis has been set up beautifully for the best driving experience. Putting your foot down results in a very satisfying experience, and the shifts are super quick, thanks to the short-throw shifter. The car is very quick in a straight line and proves to be agile around corners. The steering brims with feedback, and there’s plenty of confidence through corners, thanks to the grippy tyres and Porsche Active Suspension Management. The ride isn’t too firm and power delivery is linear and predictable. The sport exhaust system only further adds to the experience and is very deeply satisfying. At 4000rpm, the resonance valves open up, and that’s when it is pure music to the ears.
